Looking for a spooktacular fun family event? Or are you a recreational runner who wants to crush a PB … while wearing a creative costume? The Peace Arch Hospital Foundation’s annual Great Pumpkin Run/ Walk offers you a chance to be active and to also give back to our community by registering for a 1k or 5k run or walk.

Many of you don’t know that this time last year, I was living in a small town on Vancouver Island and was contemplating a big move to the mainland. We were over here visiting, and decided to participate in the 5k Great Pumpkin Run after seeing posters advertise it. At the event, we fell in love with both the beautiful White Rock beach and strong sense of community.  This was the moment that caused me to imagine us enjoying our new life here together as a family.  Here’s a photo of us from last year:

The PAH Foundation was established in 1988 to be the primary fundraising body for Peace Arch Hospital, raising funds and awareness to enhance the health and wellness of our community. They serve the communities of South Surrey and White Rock, though often residents from communities nearby, like Langley and Delta, will also use the services at Peace Arch.

The 11th Annual Great Pumpkin Run Walk takes place on Saturday, October 22, 2017 and promises to be another fantastic morning at the beach. New this year is a spooky haunted house presented by Peace Arch Toyota. All funds raised at the year’s event will go towards a brand new all-abilities/all-ages playground being built next to Centennial Arena. The goal is to raise more than $100,000.

“With the Foundation’s focus on making White Rock and South Surrey the healthiest community possible, what better way than this event to get outside, be active and support a fantastic new playground for our community,” said Stephanie Beck, Peace Arch Hospital Foundation’s Executive Director. “We are so excited to get this project off the ground and create a fun and interactive space for all families and residents to play, socialize and exercise together.”

Back by popular demand is the Creative Kids Zone with bouncy castles, mini golf and face painting as well as a pancake breakfast for all attendees. Food trucks, prize packages, fairgrounds and Master of Ceremonies, Mark Madryga, will also return. Did I mention that it’s SUPER FUN?

Registration is now open at pahfoundation.ca/runwalk. The deadline for online registration is Saturday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m.
