Rainy Day Activities For Kids In The Fraser Valley

If you live in the Fraser Valley, you know that it rains here… a lot! These long rainy days can be a nightmare for us parents whose kids start going stir crazy being locked up inside all day. But, fear not! There are some great activities to do inside on rainy days all over the Fraser Valley.

Langley

  • The Great Escape – According to their website, The Great Escape is state of the art Indoor Family Entertainment Centre with a difference, located in Langley, B.C.!  We offer fun and adventure for ALL Ages. A great place to make MEMORIES with the WHOLE family.” They have Adventure playgrounds, laser tag, mini golf and a dedicated toddler area. Definitely great for the whole family to enjoy!
  • Langley Centennial Museum  – Located in Fort Langley, this museum also boasts being fun for all ages. They even have interpretive programs and scavenger hunts for the kids.
  • BC Farming Museum – also in Fort Langley, the BC Farming Museum is “a place where the past greets the present, through the rich and vibrant stories of the pioneer settlers of the Fraser Valley. Agriculture is indeed alive and well throughout the province, and especially in the Fraser Valley.” What kid doesn’t like tractors and farming stories?
  • Canadian Museum of Flight – Found at the Langley airport, this museum’s aim is to “bring British Columbia’s Aviation past into the future.” There are some great events they put on throughout the year, like a family day event, Girls can Fly and a Kids carnival in the fall. What a great place to get indoors and learn about our aviation history and see some pretty cool aircraft!

Abbotsford

  • Play Abby – This is a great place to meet up with some other Moms (or families) and have your kids play together while you sip a coffee or tea! There’s a designated toddler area here, laser tag and they even have a Mom and baby yoga class!
  • Get Air – Get Air is Abbotsford’s indoor trampoline park. They have special times designated for toddler jumping and jumpers with special needs. The facility is wall to wall trampolines, foam pits and ninja courses. Sounds like fun for anyone!
  • Castle Fun Park – Castle Fun Park (or if you’re old enough like me to remember it as Wonderland) definitely has something for everyone. There are 2 indoor mini golf courses (Jungle golf or Coral Sea), batting cages, a laser maze and enough arcade games to keep you entertained for hours. Kids like earning tokens for the candy and prizes to take home as well.
  • Eco Dairy – These 80 acres of lush farmland with views to Mt Baker, is the first demonstration farm of its kind in anywhere Canada. They offer a unique and interactive learning environment. Kids can get a tour of the barn and watch the cows get milked! The interactive puzzles and games are a lot of fun too.

Rainy Day Activities For Kids

Chilliwack

  • Go Banana’s – Their website states they are “safe, fun, and affordable entertainment for children 11 months to 13 years of age.” They have a multilevel soft playground with a special area for toddlers as well. Again, this would be a great place to meet up with some other families for an afternoon of indoor fun!
  • Chilliwack Cultural Centre – This was a new one for me. I didn’t know Chilliwack had a cultural centre. But they do, and it looks amazing from the website (this might have to be my next rainy-day activity with my kids!) There are 2 theatres, Art Gallery, Music studios and Arts and Crafts studios. They also have some really neat kids’ classes available. Why not spend an afternoon there and explore your creative side!

Each community has many more things to offer to do on rainy-days. You can always check out your local rec centre or YMCA for things to do. There are many open gym times for kids, swimming and skating, all for a reasonable price!

Or, you can live a little on the wild side, but on your rubber boots and raincoat and go singing in the rain with your kids!

Whatever you decide to do on your next rainy-day… have fun!!
